Liked It“I devoured this series in my teenage years and still have very fond memories about it. The world of Osten Ard may seem like a stereotypical fantasy setting, but Williams' style of writing and the overall plot of "Memory, Sorrow & Thorn" make the series something special, in my opinion.” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“The pictured book is the first half of the third novel in Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, but I'll review the book as a whole. It was split into two volumes because of its length. |

Everything is so beautifully brought together. The reasons for everything, the hows, the whys. It's just beautiful. When you get done with the book, and you read the ending. There is not a bit of disappointment in the book in the least. A lot of anthers drop the ball in the end, a lot unfortunately.. but this ending is so perfectly done. I would recommend these books to anyone that even remotely likes fantasy book. These are some of the best books I have read. ”

This is the only book I have literally thrown across the room in anger and disgust I so hated the 'climax'. The last 30 pages of 'resolution' which were nothing but the tying up of random plot lines and backstory you forgot, never really cared about or already could figure out were almost as bad.
In general, the whole series was pointless and might have been better if the author cut out some 1000 pages of meandering dialogue, repetitive storyline and overdone descriptions.”
“A really good fantasy series...”

In this story, Josua's army and the League of the Scroll are preparing for the battle against the storm king. However, Simon and Miriamele have a trial of their own to endure.
I enjoyed many parts of this book, particularly the storlines centering on Josua and Maegwin. However, because of the multiple storylines, it was a very long read and the ending felt anticlimatic.”
