This was a great sci military read. It popped into my radar from some good reviews, and I was not disappointed. The story line was well paced, it had the requisite alien killer bugs, so it was all good.

“Armor” is kind of a strange military SF novel. I have to admit I was reluctant to take on this book (considering very fiery critics) but finally I read it and I have to say I liked it a lot, although I wouldn’t call it military SF novel – it reads more like drama in my humble opinion.

Novel is actually composed of two stories. First part gets Felix in his first battle ever and follows him through some very heavy fighting – filled with horror images of Ants swarming everywhere and killing everybody. Miraculously Felix survives and becomes something that everybody admires (since he is a great fighter/survivor) but also fears and [yes right] hates, because he is a living proof of military command stupid decisions and proof that some people can endure through lot of trouble. Second part begins with Jack Crow, outlaw extraordinaire, escaping from some alien prison and ending on a distant planet with the task (he was forced to take) to prepare ground for incoming pirate fleet. To get there he takes an old combat armor as a present to the planet governor – exactly the one Felix wore – armor holding recordings of all battles Felix took part in.

I will not go any further into plot, but I have to admit that I truly enjoyed the rest of the ride. Recommended.

It was a little work to stay with this parallel-storyline book. It's hard to see where it's going, but it comes together perfectly.

One of my favorite interstellar war books. This is what started me on the genre years ago. I only wish they had it for the Kindle to facilitate a re-read.

Steakley paints a great, grim vision of a brutal struggle against a terrible enemy that drew me right in. There are great action sequences and a lot of content that is not as the story sort of branches into 2 story lines as the book progresses. The action in the beginning of the book is some of the best I've read to date.

The ending was excellent and I will certainly re-read. A good pick for fans of military scifi.

Great book...great twist at the end. I couldnt put down the fighting sequences ever...they were just too good. The only problem I had is that you start feeling for the main character and spend a lot of time reading about him...then it switches to a new character which takes up another large part of the book...Its a small complaint...but this is one mi sci-fi you have to read.

Starship Troopers-style bugs and powered armor = cool. Kind of cool style (2 seemingly unrelated stories come together in the end).

Exceptionally complex. Writing style pulls you in to the story.
