I loved it. there are many layers interwoven in the book(s) and all of them enjoyable and without the need to understanding everything it still is a nice read.

An absolutely engrossing and entertaining piece of literature that stands with the best science fiction and general fiction ever written. Simmons has crafted a captivating take on the Canterbury Tales that is utterly fantastic, and yet, totally believable. A future world wrapped in a mystery spun out over a compelling yarn that never stops. Buy the sequel at the same time, since you will certainly want to read it at once. Perhaps the best science fiction genre I have ever read, and I've read them all. Easily the equal of Clarke, Bradbury, Asimov and Herbert. Stop reading this review and get it now.

I was not expecting a novel in the form of "The Canterbury Tales" when I started this! I am impressed with the author's linking of six related, UNFINISHED stories in this fashion. Which brings me to the other thing I didn't expect: a continued story. Now I have to find and read "The Fall of Hyperion!"

Not actually bad, and I appreciated the *idea* of a science fiction Canterbury Tales, but it never grabbed my attention, and eventually I realized I hadn't picked it up in a month, and didn't care.
