Only with reluctance would I name the book one of my favourites, for it employs throughout devices I routinely find annoying in modern fantasy writing. Chief among these is an awareness on the part of the...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“A unicorn, a haphazard wizard, and a spirited scullery woman journey to the dreaded kingdom of Haggaard, an evil ruler who, with the help of a bull-shaped demon, imprisons all the unicorns of the world. ”

I first fell in love with the animated movie when I was a child and discovered the book a few years later during middle school. If you've enjoyed the movie at all you really owe it to yourself to read this book, its so beautifully written and the story itself is such a timeless classic.”

A true classic.”
“Here's kind of a geeky review.... I first saw the movie when I was 5 yrs old, and for some reason I absolutely fell in love with it. Much to the annoyance of my siblings since I would watch it over and over. I didn't read the book until some years later, but when i did i loved it just as much. So here I'am at 20, still loving the story from my childhood and now own a signed copy of the DVD by the author. It's a great children's story, I even got my little sister hooked on it!”

The writer has an interesting style and there was some switching of the point of view to some unknown first person in a couple places. I love the story though, mostly because there is a unicorn in it!”

I really loved the language because it was beautiful and poetic, and it moved at a steady pace. However, I had the feeling that the story was going nowhere (or somewhere disappointing), so I stopped reading. Plus, I didn't really like the unicorn character. She was very emotion-less, which I guess she was supposed to be, but to me, she seemed like an unfeeling rude snob, filled with loathing for herself and humans. But it was a pretty interesting story and I think I'll try reading it again in the future. But for now, I'm just going to watch the movie.”
