  • Fireheart: A medium size tom, with fur the color of fire (ginger). He is the main character of the series
  • Graystripe: Fireheart's best friend who he grew up apprentices with. long-haired solid gray tom
  • Tigerclaw: A big dark brown tabby tom with unusually long front claws. He is Fireheart's worst enemy, and ThunderClan's Deputy. Fireheart is suspicious about Tigerclaw's treachery.
  • Bluestar: A blue gray she-cat, tinged with silver around her muzzle. She is the leader of ThunderClan
  • Sandstorm: A pale ginger she-cat. Another one of Fireheart's friends.
  • Silverstream: A very pretty silver tabby RiverClan cat who is in love with Graystripe
  • Cloudkit: long-haired white tom. A Thunderclan kit. Fireheart's sister's kit, aka his nephew
  • Cinderpaw: A ThunderClan apprentice, crippled by a monster; dark gray she-cat
  • Mistyfoot: River clan queen
  • Yellowfang: The ThunderClan medicine cat. Old dark gray she-cat with a broad, flattened face. Former Shadowclan medicine cat.
  • Brokenstar/Brokentail: long-haired dark brown tabby. A ThunderClan prisoner and elder. He was the former leader of ShadowClan, until he was driven out. Now blind
  • Darkstripe: A ThunderClan warrior; sleek black-and-gray tabby tom
  • Nightstar: The leader of ShadowClan; old black tom
  • Goldenflower: A ThunderClan queen; pale ginger coat
  • Whitestorm: A ThunderClan warrior; big white tom
  • Crookedstar: The RiverClan leader; huge light-colored tabby with a twisted jaw
  • Ravenpaw: sleek black cat with a white-tipped tail who lives on the farm with Barley; Fireheart's friend, who had to leave the forest because he knows to much about Tigerclaw.
  • Brackenpaw: Graystripe's apprentice; golden brown tabby tom
  • Leopardfur: The RiverClan deputy; unusually spotted golden tabby she-cat
  • Tallstar: The leader of WindClan; black-and-white tom with a very long tail
  • Graypool: A RiverClan elder; thin gray she-cat with patchy fur and a scarred muzzle. A fairly big part of the book.
  • Runningwind: A ThunderClan warrior; swift tabby tom
  • Mousefur: A ThunderClan warrior; small dusky brown she-cat

  • Deadfoot: The WindClan deputy; black tom with a twisted paw

  • Smudge: plump, friendly black-and-white kitten who lives in a house at the edge of the forest. Used to live next to Fireheart when he was a kittypet.
  • Barley: black-and-white tom who lives on a farm close to the forest.
  • Princess: light brown tabby with a distinctive white chest and paws; a kittypet. Fireheart's sister.
  • Whitefoot: A RiverClan warrior; died in Fire and Ice
  • One-Eye: Thunderclan elder; pale gray she-cat, virtually blind and deaf. Oldest cat in Thunderclan
  • Longtail: Tabby and white tom; ThunderClan warrior
  • Blackclaw: RiverClan warrior; smoky black tom
  • Willowpelt: ThunderClan warrior; very pale gray she-cat with unusual blue eyes
