“I'll start by saying that I don't have any expertise in the field of psychiatry, apart from my extensive reading into Autism (I have a twelve year old Autistic son), and along with the therapy sessions and constant meetings with the school psychologist, I'm not studied at all in this area. I'm particularly non-versed in the area of schizophrenia, so my opinion on this book is based solely on what I took from it and the writing of the author.
Bearing that in mind, I really liked this book, and I was fairly surprised. I find myself saying a lot in these reviews that it's not my "cup of tea" because my cup of tea really is maybe two or three flavors and that's it. But I'm really glad that I read it, because it was actually really good.
From a technicality stand point, the book had a very interesting lay out, the writing was sharp, it flowed in a novel-esque way so it didn't feel like you were droning along in some psychology 101 text book.
The story, if you will, was told in a way that not only provides information about the condition, but does so in a way, through the eyes of a person going through it all, and gives you an incredible insight into the person's mind. I walked away from the book slightly awed, with a desire to look up more, to study more, an interest I hadn't expected to be piqued.
This isn't your typical feel-good-rainy-day sort of read, but it's fantastic. It deserves the absolute five stars that I'm giving it, and I highly recommend that you pick this book up and give it a read!”
