She rules with firm kindness, and is as adept a warrior as any in her kingdom. The Sunshine in her father's eyes, and the darling of her people. A loving free-spirit who has known only her own way and will, all of her life.The question is, how much is she willing to change to be with him? And should she?
• Lord Devaleh Knaye: Born to a favored Warrior who is lost to he and his mother early in his life, Devaleh grows up in the shadow of Hummingbird Palace, determined to serve among the renown Red Feather Guard - a dream he sets out to have realized soon after his seventeenth birthday. All is going just as he had hoped - until his first glimpse of the Princess. He knew that there would never be any opportunity for him to as much as speak to her without incurring the wrath of Kusta, or worse, her father himself, much less the hope that there could ever be anything between them. She would not even ever know that he existed. But it was no use. It was not by choice, nor fallacy, it simply was. Devaleh Knaye was in love. Somewhere within him, she had contacted a level he had not previously known existed. Never, never in his wildest fantasies could any one ever have convinced him to entertain the idea that she would not only speak with him, but allow him to kiss her, save his life afterward, and eventually fall in love with him!!But it had happened…
• Chief Commander, Kusta Obe: Before she was even born, Kusta was chosen to be Guardian of the future Queen. Passionate and adept as a Warrior, caring and obsessively watchful of his friend, he is as close to Tyelah as the father she lost to the Great War. She has leaned on him, listened to his advice, sought his input in nearly every decision she has made. Until...that is, Devaleh came along. Relinquishing ones place is never a simple matter - and Kusta has never done well with change...
• Anomi Kaesa - Warrior Princess: Abandoned as a babe in the forest, found by King Ole Olesk and taken in to become a member of the Palace Hummingbird, raised - as the princess herself had been - by the wise old House Chief, Verinay. All she has ever desired was a sense of belonging...and to know what became of the mother she has never known. Commanding the Queen's personal unit of Sentries has provided, at least, a sense of purpose. Yet it is Devaleh's arrival and subsequent joining with the Queen which precipitates the most monumental change of her lifetime. Now...all she needs to do is disengage her husband from his focus on his 'duty'...
