Divisadero

Divisadero

by Michael Ondaatje

From the celebrated author of The English Patient, comes another breathtaking, unforgettable story, this time about a family torn apart by an act of violence. Divisadero is a rich and rewarding read, one that Jhumpa Lahiri, in her guest review for Amazon.com (see below), calls "Ondaatje's finest novel to date." --Daphne Durham

Great writing. Loved it. One problem though: I was as clueless at the end as I was at the beginning. What happened to Anna, Coop etc? Why did the story all of a sudden turn to Lucien and why did it end with him?

Anywho. Everybody should read some Ondaatje especially this one. :)

it took me forever to get through this book. and i am really not sure why. the writing? disinterest? i struggled through it and made myself finish it and then realized i just didn't "get" it, even after finishing it. didn't get it from the beginning, didn't get it at the end.

Hi! Just finished Divisadero and I am not sure what to think... I think I maybe need to go to sleep and let my thoughts percolate a little bit. But I did not really enjoy it. I think he has got some amazing writing techniques and can illustrate a scene very provocatively, but I was having a hard time identifying with the characters and figuring out how and why they were tied together.

A very disjointed story. Here now, there tomorrow. Not much relationship between the differrent stories. After reading it and thought listentiing to it would improve the story, it didn't.

I am about one-third of the way into this one, but so far, I am bored with it. I don't think I care for any of the characters at all. Will I be glad if I make the effort to finish it?
