“Great illustrations for a series of short stories in graphic-novel format. The title of the "demon" suggests a short tale of trama or sadness, or sometimes even happiness. Topics most people will identify with. Lynda Barry shares her fantastic imagination and insight humbly here.”

Who cares about definitions; does it work? Yes. Lynda Barry works. This collection of honest, funny, touching, too-true vignettes just seems so true in the micro- and macro-sense of what it means to be human. The brush style Barry uses (and recommends in the last pages of this book) is beautiful and is perfect for her writing style.
I'm impressed by the visuals, the writing, the flow . . . this is just a really great piece of art that made me happy and melancholy, but never unsure how great it is to be alive.”
“Semi-autobiographical graphic novel of Lynda Barry's childhood in Seattle (98144 zip code!). Touching, funny, bittersweet and aching. Memorable chapters: Lynda loses her magic and her best friend Ev; being intrigued by the smells of people's houses; missing a lost stuffed toy or blanket; adopting an abused dog.”

She is a witty, whimsical, reflective, and insightful artist and writer.
Her charming and haunting reflections of her childhood and adult demons made me laugh, sigh, cry, and remember a few of my own similar demons.”
