Morgan Wakefield is orpahaned although she is more than old enough to be married is left in a mans world in a time in history where men are rule in all legal situations. Father whom she's been told is selfish and cruel has stipulated in his will that she stay in New Mexico with a man she marries of her choice for one year before she is allowed to inherit the ranch he owned in life as well as the property she and her mother lived on in Kentucky. She has an Uncle who has dollar signs in his eyes and knows that if his neice does not marry with a certain time he will in turn inherit her money and thus control her life. Forever hearing she is plain and virtually unattractive she lacks confidence in herself as being able to attain a husband in love so she approaches the situation on a more practicle angle and makes her own offer to Seth Colter when she meets him at a dance just before her money grubbing Uncle plans to wisk her away to Europe as a plan to keep the money. Seth entranced with the woman although plain in appearance is still mezmerized but willing to work with the situation as he also owns a ranch of his own in New Mexico.
