“Did you know that we might have been a nation of Hellenist if Julian had not made the fatal mistake of going after the Muslim's? Fascinating read. the premise is very plato-esque done through letters of two old teachers of Julian discussing what might have been and the reality of the Christians and their petty squabbles taking over. Historically accurate but set only the way Mr. Vidal can. When I met him we spoke about this book a great deal. ”

Previously a fiction hater, this book wove historical myth with Vidal's own insertions of storytelling and literary intensity. Spiritual, violent, sexual and thought-provoking. Made a Gore Vidal fan out of me... Thanks Jason!”

The story of the pagan emperor who attempted to stop the advance of Christianity in the Roman empire. Another well-researched historical piece.”

He has always loved Rome, and I think this book allowed him to justify spending so much time there (doing research). One finds oneself wondering what would have happened if Christianity had not taken things over.”
