The book I’m reading is called the Bermudez Triangle. The reason I like this book is that I can relate to it. It has a lot of suspense. Finally I love the character Nina we are alike in some ways.
I can relate to the Bermudez Triangle. I can relate to it because it is mostly about teenage love and finding who your true friends are. In the book Nina the main character goes on a college trip to visit a college during summer. While Nina was at college she met a boy named Steve and before the trip ended Nina and Steve became a couple. While Nina and Steve were together Avery and Mel also became a couple.
This book has a LOT of suspense. The most suspenseful part of the book is when Avery and Mel got home from this party and they slept over Mel’s house. While they were there they were talking about how their lives would be if they were together. The next morning Avery and Mel kissed and they finally become the couple they always wanted to be. When Nina got home from her trip they did not tell her right away Nina had to find out for herself. They all went to the mall in their neighborhood Mel and Avery went into this one store while Nina went in another. Nina walked into the store Avery and Mel were in and couldn’t find them anywhere. Finally she found them in a clothes rack kissing.
Nina and I are alike in a couple ways. One way we are alike is we both care about our grades a lot. In the book Nina is student council vice-president. I’m just very concerned about my grades. Another way we are alike is I love my best friends to death and I would do anything for them. Nina loves Avery and Mel so much that it doesn’t bother her one bit about Avery and Mel being together she is just glad they are happy. It did bother her at the beginning but she learned to get over it.
The Bermudez Triangle is one of the best books I have ever read before. It is a really good book and I recommend it.

An article about efforts to ban this book in Oklahoma: http://www.examiner-enterprise.com/articles/2007/05/10/community/com804.txt

My response: I can't claim to be shocked that this book was challenged, since it does deal with teenage girls questioning and discovering their sexuality, but as always I'm disappointed when people choose to bury their heads in the sand rather than accepting that people are different, and choosing to recognize a book that deals with real issues in a sensitive and realistic manner.

I thought that Johnson approached her subject matter in an interesting way. Rather than just focusing on the one character who winds up coming out, and her struggle to come to terms with her own sexuality, Johnson sets her story within a group of 3 girls. When one of the girls goes away for the summer before their senior year of high school, the other two find themselves in a "more than friends" situation. Johnson sympathetically relates the story of any two people who try to negotiate going from being friends to having a romantic relationship, and possibly back again. Teenagers can definitely relate to this story, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Added to that well-drawn story, Johnson also gives us the third girl in the triangle, who comes home from her summer away and finds herself in the middle of the complicated relationship of her two best friends, while at the same time dealing with issues surrounding her own new long-distance relationship.

One criticism I have is that the characters weren't all that well-drawn. I had trouble at the beginning distinguishing the three main characters, and even after I could remember who was who, they all seemed a little fuzzy around the edges. None of the secondary characters were particularly clear either. In a book that is largely character driven, I wanted to get a better sense of the characters outside of the particular conflicts they were facing.

I picked up this book at Borders simply because I needed some reading material to bring to camp, not because I thought it looked interesting, so I wasn't really expecting much. However, I was blown away. I adored the writing style from the start, and the characters were lively and fun. Mel and Avery's relationship issues kept me on tenterhooks, while at the same time I awaited with bated breath the e-mails between Nina and Steve. There are a lot of young adult books out there about gay teenage boys, but this is the only YA book about lesbians I've ever found, and I loved every minute of it. It's my favorite book I read this summer.

great story about life in high school and how relationships and the mistakes we make in them can screw things up or can make life better - it is up to you! true friends can go through anything and come out stronger on the other side.
