Amazing reportage from Martha Raddatz. This is the book everyone should read before discussing veteran's affairs of another war. brilliant!

Martha Raddatz puts a human face on the dead and wounded during the harrowing Black Sunday (April 4, 2004) of the Iraq war. Her fascinating look at the families of those soldiers makes this a very meaningful book. I don't read much non-fiction, but I couldn't put this book down.

This book made me feel as though I were there, in the middle of the battle, I could feel how anxious the soldiers were.

After the Public Radio interview with the author, I immediately bought the book and read it in two days. I wept most of the way through this terrifying story. It is not for the weak of heart. It tells of unimaginable violence and hopelessness overcome by training, courage, luck, pluck, and refusal to quit. Perhaps the most moving war story I have ever read. Martha Raddatz has earned her stripes.

    Hoo ahhhhhhhh

I read this after I had the privilege of hearing Martha Raddatz speak in Chicago at the Pritzker Military Library. It is the first time I felt truly connected to the experience of the soldiers and their families. Martha Raddatz' writing is engaging and honest. Good read.

This is an incredible book. It is a true story about the Iraq war. Beware, they use the F word throughout.

I'm halfway through this and loving it. For me, it so personalizes this war.
