“What did you think when you first read it?”
“I dont know about being converted, i certainly wasnt, but that doesnt mean that the series wasnt good. I thoroughly enjoyed the story which was actually fiction. This wasnt a theology lesson, yanno. I mean i know the Bible uses parables to teach lessons but i dont think this series wouldve counted. I took it as an entertaining story, no more no less. Perhaps, some people think its more because they are particularly impressionable. Maybe they think that all books are like the Cyrinishad and anyone that reads it will become a devout follower. However, its NOT like that and you can only be convinced of anything in these stories if you already had a leaning in that direction. I doubt anyone that not already grounded in Christian beliefs would be swayed by these stories. And if they were @ most they would prolly just wait for the Rapture to make it official ;)”
“Do your Gods talk to you??--Yes.Have they given you something that can last forever??--Yes.why did you turn away from it in the first place?--Because it was unbelievable and slandered God, making God out to be an evil monster who murdered babies because of who their parents were (the Exodus). You cannot bring my faith down just because you don't believe Jesus Christ died just for you!! --If you feel your faith is being brought down, that's your fault, not mine. I'm not trying to deconvert anyone, I'm trying to defend myself against your slanders of my faith and attempts to convert me to yours.do your Gods have a book.--Of course not. No Gods have books. Those were all written by human beings who got God wrong somehow.prove to me that there is more than one God, can you do that?--No. Can you prove to me that the only God is your God exactly as you conceive of him? No.Can you prove christianity wrong?--Yes, but proving something wrong doesn't mean "true believers" will listen to the proof. Also, I don't see the point. You'd just get even more pissed off, and I'd have wasted my time on a faith system I already consider utterly worthless. All the things the Bible prophesized are happening now!!--No, they're not. Just check out Jews for Judaism sometime and see the real meaning of Isaiah 53...it has nothing to do with Jesus.OUR OWN COUNTRY IS GOING DOWN. Does that not show you that there is only one god in the universe.--No, it shows me our president is insane and can't conduct foreign policy. If you had faith in god your life would've been as perfect as Jesus's was. --Nonsense. Christians have lived their entire lives, and still do live their entire lives, in torture and pain. Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven. Remember?you'll be going...WHY DID I TURN AGAINST YOU GOD??? how come i wasn't taken??--Nonsense. No "God" worthy of the name would torture anyone in hell. I'm sorry you believe in such a "God."”
“So, again, you do not discuss the writing. But, let me make myself clear, I feel that LaHaye and Jenkins benefit by attacking the overwhelming inferior american intellect. They quickly make you feel unsafe around anyone that is not like you, and who isn't a fundamentalist christian. These types of books do alot of damage. But instead of defending the book, you attack me? Very simplistic way of disregarding an opinion, you can ignore it if hate it.. Reading this, and realizing that there are people out there buying this book is a horrible realization. This book is not literature, it is propaganda in disguise. Indoctrinated people and children are very well a target for this type of hate”
“First of all, I was giving my critique of the book and the series. These men also wrote a book for children. This is surprising for two main reasons: 1st, the left behind series is written at a fifth or sixth grade level of comprehension and 2nd, this topic, marketed as fiction, is not one that children should be exposed to... (You know, the whole, do what I say or a loving god will torture you on earth then send you to hell to be tortured even worse for all of eternity) Not really a topic children can process in a manner that isn't abusive to their psyche.Second: I did not attack you, but if you feel anger that is something you need to deal with. I have not used any big words, and do not feel the need to attack you because of your apparent distaste for people that do not have the same experience with the series that you have had. If you look at the tools that are used when presenting an argument in a persuasive manner, you will see that the left behind series is full of them.Third, and most important. When picking a book up, like Le Miserables or Left Behind, it is important to understand where it came from and in what form it is being received. Le Miserable is a classic translation. You will find that in many translations that the original vocabulary through prose is lost. I mean specifically that the beauty behind the words is still there, but the words used to portray the idea have been changes so as to make some sense of the translation with respect to the surrounding ideas. So, I agree with you that a book need not be written at a level of high acuity to achieve it's purpose. So, If you really would like to have a well thought out discussion, I am open to it, but if your idea of a response grow up or you're spelling needs improvement, then leave it alone. We are here to talk of books and ideas.”
“This book is writen at a very low level, and uses many simple tools of rhetoric to make the reader lose compation for the world and it's issues. Horrible book, and horrible men who wrote it.”
“i think left behind is a great book! and says something different to all of us.”
“Great book I love it and God is real!”
“I ABSOLUTLY LOVE THESE BOOKS!!!”
“These books were awesome in what they did for my faith. I love that the characters start out as non-believers. That really helped me in my walk...”
