This book was about a young girl, Hilary who hates Jews. Her and her mom aren't very close and when a boy takes her on a bike ride they crash and ends up in the hospital. When she is ina coma she lives the life of a Jew named Chana. She lived when Hitler was takeing over. Chana's father was hung by a tree and shot. She lives through her mom and little sister are taken away in the ghetto and when Chana's grandfather died. Now her only family is her grandmother and brother. One day her brother, Jakub brought two boys who needed to escape but sadly they both were shot in the head. When Chana and her greandma try to escape Jakub desides to stay and they never heard from him again. In the short while they were on the run they pretended that they were someone else. But sadly they were caught up in a round up and sent to a jail and givin many choices to confess that they were who they really were but they refused to tell and were sent to a consentration camp. They were striped of there clothes and sent outside, naked. After that they were givin clothes that were either too small or too big and sent to barracs.they lived there with other women. They had to stand through roll call which would take usually 6 hours. They had to do back breaking jobs. Like moving boulders and digging holes to go to the bathroom in. Doing that Chana met a girl who needed her help as a mom. Chana took care of her as long as she could, then sadly the gir died. Back in Hilary's world the boy who got her int he accident was going to try and burn down the hospital which was a Jew hospital. And somthing else Hilary wondered was who the old woman sitting by her side was. Back with Chana everything was wrong her grandmother was no longer in the same barrac as her. She was soon invited to play in the band as a violin player which her father taught her to play. Everything started spinning and she saw the old woman who had a scar just like Chana's and discovered the old woman was Chana. Hilary begged for help but she just said you can do it by yourself. everything went black. The next thing she knew she was looking at her mother in a hospital room. She found out that Brad ,the boy who crashed his bike shoved a kid in the locker (who they later found) and tried to burn the hospital down but failed. She was getting used to her wheel chair when a woman came in and asked for her. It was Chana's little sister. Chana asked her to give her a photobook.Hilary was so happy but her mother was confused. But she just said we knew each other, very well.
