“Some bonds can never be broken. When Candice disappears, the magical bond between her, Frankie and Sandra is strong enough that, through the use of divination, sleeping dreams and sheer determination, Frankie and Sandra will risk their very lives in an attempt to save their troubled friend. Will they find her in time? Can they convince her to come home?
Severed Ties by Angie Skelhorn is a heart-rending look at the bonds and love shared through the magical gifts of three young girls as they each learn hard lessons about “the other side of the tracks.” I saw this as an excellent coming of age story about taking risks for what is important and accepting what cannot be changed. Although very short, the emotional tension runs high throughout and the ending is not what I expected, at all, but the reality of it was so very touching!
With few words, Angie Skelhorn took me to the darker and seamier side of life where survival is at best, a 50/50 proposition. The plot idea is fantastic, but I wanted more information and a slightly smoother flow for this story that grasps onto some very poignant issues facing teens today. I did, however, enjoy every page and definitely will look for more from Angie Skelhorn, who graciously provided me a copy in exchange for my honest review!
