The story is the second possible ending to Hatchet, which is also just as well written as this one! Brian had been faced with the scarcity of food and many other challenges he would face if he had stayed in the winter. I had read Hatchet a few years ago, and now i had read this. I was less...

    Brian’s Return by Gary Paulsen
This is another great book by Paulsen. This book is actually an alternate ending to another great Paulsen book, Hatchet. Paulsen states “what if the plane didn't rescue him" and he would have been forced to spend a winter in the harsh Canadian bush. Brian has many fierce challenges ahead of him. Paulsen stats of by saying, “Fall came on with a softness, so that Brian didn't realize what was in store-a hard-spined north woods winter-until it was nearly too late.”
My favorite part of the book is that it takes place entirely in the unforgiving Canadian bush. Brian is faced with many challenges including moose attacks and sub-zero temperatures. Brian has to learn to survive under the most primordial circumstances imaginable.
Brian is the main character of the story and by far my favorite. Brian grows form being a boy to a man in the hardest possible way someone could. Brian has to make his own cloths form various game that he takes using his bow that he made by hand using only a limb and a shoestring. Brain also has to struggle with keeping a fire going, finding food, and also a moose attack.
Other characters in the book are a couple wolves that Brian comes to know and respect. The wolves seem to respect Brian’s boundaries and Brian in return he respects theirs. Brian and the wolves seem to know and trust each other.
An important character that isn’t directly in the book is Brain’s mother. Brian thinks about his mother a lot. He thinks a lot of how he misses her cooking but more than anything he thinks about how he can’t forgive her. Brian’s mother had an affair causing his parents to get a divorce and it is all Brian can do to come to terms with that.
The main theme of the story is that it is the little things in life that mean the most. Although Brian is trapped in the wilderness and seems to have nothing he remains content and embraces his domain. Brian finds a beauty that can only be found in nature

The first book ( Hatchet ) is the most wonderful book of all time and this book was even better!!!!!! I still think that he left it a little unfinished and I am going to look up to see if there is another book that goes with it!!!!! : )

Once again this is a book from gary paulsen. Resently in hatchet brian is flying to see his father in Canada. Brian is un prepared for what happens next. The pilot has a heart attack and dies, luckly brian knows how to fly but then the engine fails and the plane crashes. Brian is the forced to surive in the candian wilderness alone for many months. Then brian finds a radio and contacts a passing plane, which rescues him. But Gary paulsen recieves tones of emiles and letters saying " what would happen if the plane didn't rescue him." Here is what happen.

Brian is forced with many tradgitys such as attack, also his gun ( the one he found in the surival pack) breaks. Even though he is faced with tradgitys he expirences the beautiy of nature. One part brian is starving he has many chances to get a meal but takes the time to enjoy the beautiful area that surrounds him. that is one thing that i love abot this book. It tells about the beautiy of nature. It discribes the nature so well you can picture it. i really liked this book.
