A young girl, Fern, saves a runt pig from getting killed. The pig, Wilbur, then befriends Charlotte who creates unique spider webs to show what a wonder pig Wilbur is.

Friendship can come in unexpected forms. Writing can save a life! Even rats have a place in the world. Life has cycles. Children grow up. Friendship, however, is forever.

  • Wilbur: This was one terrific pig. He was a runt who became a giant of the animal world. His views and ideas and lessons learned are about life. An awesome pig who would give his life for his friends.
  • Charlotte A. Cavatica: A clever spider who is Wilbur's friend. She at first seems blood-thirsty due to her method of catching food. However, as the story progresses one sees her inner beauty and one learns the true meaning of friendship.
  • Fern Arable: She was Wilbur's saviour and raised Wilbur when he was a baby pig.
  • Templeton: The rat on the farm who frequents the junk heap. A very selfish character, but helps others in times of need.
  • Avery Arable: Fern's pesky brother. He is 10
  • Homer Zuckerman: Fern's uncle
  • Henry Fussy: Neighbor boy and friend of Fern's
  • Aunt Edith Zuckerman: Fern's aunt
