What a thought provoking story. To think, women and their quest for a kind of freedom, still lives on today. This book has been called - an American version of Madame Bovary. I don't see it. Can someone enlighten me?

I loved this book but found it created major conflict within me -- a person who loved my role as a stay-at-home mom but could relate to Edna's internal conflict, too. Edna's character is convincing and still relevant today. The ending is realistic but sad. I recommend this book to everyone.

I remember the inner turmoil I felt when I reached the ending. Part of me accepted it as the only possible solution, part of me was crying out in protest....
