- Aperture: Aperture is the opening in the lens. It's the pupil of the camera.The size of the aperture is controlled by blades that move in and out, making it larger or smaller. These blades are like the iris of the human eye.A larger aperture opening has a smaller f-stop number. Conversely, a smaller aperture opening has a larger f-stop number. Thus, an aperture of f/1.8 has a larger opening than an aperture of f/22.
