“I love this author's mystery series because I love the sense of humor she gives her characters, but this book was not enjoyable to me. The writing style reminded me of a seventh grade girl's. This is part one of the Just One Night series, a ‘craze’ that’s gone through erotica in the last year or so; though I haven’t seen so much of it recently. To explain, a book is released in ‘parts’ in short succession, for example on the 1st of every month for three consecutive months. To be honest, I don’t really see the allure of having to pay for three (or more) separate parts of what would otherwise most likely be published as the same book; that said, it’s a good marketing concept and quickly creates a hype and following where a series is dynamic and fast-paced enough to fit into the framework.
The story of uptight, plays-it-by-the-rules-Kasie was good, but not quite enough for me to actively seek out parts 2 and 3. I received The Stranger through NetGalley and the other parts might also have been available too, but I don’t remember. If they were still there now, I’d read them for the sake of it, but as much as I want to know what happens, I’m not going to pay for it.
I’m really not particularly fond of Robert, or Dave for that matter. I can’t pin down why exactly, except to say that they both felt a little sleazy, which is not what you want from the hero(s) in a book. Especially a romance novel. Paired with their treatment of Kasie, I didn’t find it very enjoyable reading.
One thing I do love about these books: the covers. After Fifty Shades, all erotica covers suddenly had to have a sex-ified object on the cover, and it was all about making it as un-erotica-like as possible. These books have gone one step further and isolated an object within a larger setting, using really great colours and I love it. They're just really, really pretty and one of the best that I've seen. ”

“Original review here: http://offbeatvagabond.blogspot.com/2013/01/arc-review-stranger-just-one-night-1-by.html
I really enjoyed the hell out of this book. The plot really left an impact on me. It was emotional and real. Davis has some wonderful writing skills and they way this story was told was beautiful. Seeing Kasie struggle with her decisions and trying to understand herself as well as her situation was a great experience.
Just One Night is the story about a girl named Kasie who seemingly has the perfect life. She is going ring shopping soon with the man of her dreams, she has a great job, and a great family. Kasie seems to have it all. But one night when on a trip to Las Vegas with her best friend, Simone, she meets a man named Robert. He makes her act like no one ever has. She does something she has no intention of doing again. But life takes a turn when the man she was never supposed to see again is in town and wants to work with her. Soon, Kasie's perfect life turns upside and she doesn't know who she is and is afraid of the person she is becoming.
Kasie was an interesting lead for me. This is the first book I have read about someone cheating on their spouse. I don't condone cheating whatsoever. But I am an open minded person and I was able to see why she did it. She doesn't seem to know who she is and through Robert (the man she cheated with), I think she found who she was, but she couldn't take it. Kasie has always done what was expected of her and she feels like she is letting down everyone and she wants to make everyone else happy but herself. I really liked Robert. He was sexy, confident, smart, and knew what he wanted. He was able to read Kasie so quickly and understood her more than anybody else in this book. Not to mention you could tell this wasn't some fling thing for him. From the first night, you can kind of tell he is falling for her.
I was actually not a big fan of Dave's, her boyfriend she cheated on. He seemed liked someone that wanted to keep her in a box. I may be the only one who feels this way, but there was a red flag I had about him. I think subconsciously she knew this as well. When they were together, it felt more like a business arrangement. No sparks at all. Whenever asked about whether she will marry him, she says either he helped get her her job or they have been together for six years. She never says she wants to marry him because she loves him. She says it near the end of the book, but it felt like she was trying to convince herself more than anything. It wasn't natural. Kasie even says that she feels an obligation to be with him.
I did like Kasie, but her inner dialogue got on my nerves. I wanted to slap some sense into her. I didn't like when she listened to her friend Simone. But Simone did make a good point. She tells Kasie she is with Dave for comfort. I think that was Kasie's first big flaw. I felt like she knew what she wanted but was too scared to admit it to herself and needed someone to tell her otherwise. She was a tad bit immature at times, but I think it was more that she wanted to stay the perfect girl for her family. She was so worried about letting her family down. We do get a little back story about Kasie's sister and her downfall though. That story explains why Kasie feels she is obligated to do whatever is expected of her and why she wants to keep her family happy. She wants to stay "the good girl that can do no wrong."
I am dying to see where book 2 will take us. The ending made my heart drop to my stomach. Not due to what happened per se, but how it was handled. I won't say anything, but I will say it makes me like Robert more. This story was suspenseful and I cared for these characters and their story. The plot kept me fascinated and wanting to know where it was going to go. I really enjoyed this story a lot. You may have to put your personal feelings about cheating aside to really enjoy this, but that won't take away from how good this is. Just One Night was super sexy and quite the page turner. I couldn't put this bad boy down. I can't wait to see what will happen next. Highly recommended. And don't listen to the famous motto, it is a lie; what happens in Vegas won't stay in Vegas. It will come back and bite you in the ass. ”
“OMG I am going explode! March 19th....Really!?! Really!?! Heaven help me if the world ends on the December 21st. This book leaves you with the mother of all cliff hangers! Well not really but to me it seems like it. I absolutely 100% could not get enough of this book. My fingers have blisters on them because this book was smoking hot. I didn't know how I would feel about the cheating aspects of this book. Most of the time if I start reading about someone cheating I instantly start secretly hating them. Those feelings never came I was rooting for Kasie and Robert the entire time. I wanted Kasie to choose being herself and not what she thought she should be. It is very hard to find people who you let/want to see the complete you. Neither, Robert or Dave, knew the real Kasie. Kasie doesn't even know the real Kasie. I can't wait to see how she grows and discovers herself in the next book. Dave I did feel bad for him just a little about the situation and him not knowing until the end. I have my own ideas on what was going on with him now that I have finished some of the pieces are starting to come together. (FYI...I am usually always wrong with my assumptions. lol) Very good! Highly recommend! One of the best erotica short stories I have read in a long time. And it continues…March 19th is already marked on my calendar.”CarrieJ wrote this review Monday, January 21, 2013. “ Kasie, Kasie, Kasie. Sleeping with a stranger? Really? Your best friend may be trying to force you to take a good hard look at the long term relationship you are in, but is cheating on your almost fiance the path to self awareness? Or is it just the coward's choice?
I found the cheating aspect difficult to accept in the beginning. Kasie is supposed to be strong and smart. However, there were things outlined about her past that could cause her to wobble in her decision making. She had been trying to live up to the standard of all that was good and true in the world to please her parents, who were already let down by her sister. She didn't want to disappoint her boyfriend of six years because he had helped her get where she wanted to be in her career. No, she shouldn't have cheated on Dave at all. The high road would have been to tell him how she truly felt and dealt with that relationship before diving into another one. But, she is a human being, they are weak sometimes, and they make horrible mistakes. Now, I felt bad for the guy, for the most part. But there was always this little niggling feeling that Dave wasn't all he was cracked up to be, devoted and loving, the perfect fiance. A couple of places made me stop and think, Watch out, this guy seems like a push over right now but something is brewing there. When the end came and he called Kasie off that boat where she was meeting Robert, it was a relief. The true feelings of Dave were out there and he was no pushover. He threatened and bullied her. Unfortunately, she hides from her problems again and runs back to Dave, apologizing for what she had done, but I don't think she truly regretted it. So, you wait for the next book to read what happens from there. I am hoping that she finally leaves Dave and starts making her own decisions, not just doing what everyone expects of her. I look forward to seeing just what happens now that Dave has threatened and bullied her to get her to fall back in line with what he wants.
Overall I enjoyed this book, it was extremely well written, but have a feeling the story will get better as the series progresses.
I was given a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.”
“First, my review is based on the QUALITY of the writing, pace, if the story drew me in. That said, yes, this is about deceit and infidelity at first look. Not 'happy' topics, not the first books written about the topics. But, I was completely sucked in to this story!
Kasie Fitzgerald, is a successful, educated business woman who has always tried to fit into the molds expected of her. She was the perfect daughter, the perfect employee, the perfect girlfriend, dressing appropriately, acting appropriately, ignoring the side of her that wanted to be free.
One night in Las Vegas with a friend changed her, perhaps beyond the ability to go back to her 'perfect' little world, finding a side of her that seemed to complete her being. She had a one night stand with a mysterious and compelling stranger, thinking she would be able to resume her life and forget about it.
Kasie returns to work and finds that a new client has requested she run his account. His business is huge for her firm and she discovers it is Robert, her one night stand.
Kasie must decide what is right for her, and she is struggling with doing 'the right thing' by marrying Dave, a lukewarm, yet good man or tossing everything away for Robert and how he brings her to life.
The erotic portions of the book were passionate, but not overpowering. The characters were real, the writing intense with emotion.
This ARC copy of Just One Night: The Stranger Part 1 was given to me by Netgalley and Simon & Schuster - Pocket Star in exchange for an honest review. Published Date January 21, 2013. A definite five-star for me! ”
“Kasie Fitzgerald is the picture of the perfect career woman. Always working to make everyone proud, Kasie has her life planned out. This all drastically changes with one night in Vegas when she steps outside her comfort zone and has an out of control, one night stand with a stranger.
Returning home she expects to go right back to her carefully controlled life. Unfortunately her one night stand ends up being one of the biggest clients her firm has had the opportunity to represent and Robert has more than business on his mind.
Kasie must decide between her heart and her comfort zone. Robert pursues her with a vengeance and tries to show her that she is settling. Dave is safe and secure “like a potato”…”her comfort food”. But in the end the decision might just be taken out of her hand.
This is a story about self discovering, following one’s heart and in the end maybe loosing it all. When I finished Just One Night, I was blown away by my grip on my reader. Totally vested in these characters and wanting more, I realize that I will be anxiously waiting the continuation of this story. Complex relationships, heart retching choices and sizzling chemistry kept me riveted till the end.
You definitely don’t want to miss out on Just One Night. It is an incredibly HOT read with a remarkably strong plot. 5 Stars!
