Lynn and Scott led ordinary lives. Scott concentrated primarily on his career while Lynn set to living day by day, moment by moment, until that fateful day when their lives collided. Can a woman who has experienced hurt and abandonment learn to trust again? Does she dare to expose her wounded heart to others who could wound her further? How does a man learn to love unselfishly? Is it possible for him to guard a woman's heart as he would his own? These are the questions answered in this timeless tale of love and trust.

With the aid of prayer, family, and laughter Lynn and Scott begin the journey of dating, courtship, and eventual marriage. It's what happens in between that keeps the reader glued to the book. Adversity is a reality in everyone's life. It's how one deals with that adversity that makes the difference. Do we seek revenge when someone wrongs us? Or do we try and help them? Do we ignore difficult situations when they come up? Or do we face them head on until a solution can be reached? This book addresses all of the above.

Lastly, how can one maintain purity of heart in a culture so bent on destroying the human heart? The characters within give the reader some practical and realistic answers to this question. Proving that all things are possible when God is at the center of daily living.

Characters/People edit see section history

  • Lynn Carrollton: A young woman of 23yrs living her daily life with nothing special on her mind. She is content with her life until that day that God turns everything upside down and topsy-turvey... in a good way, of course.
  • Scott Eaton: A young man of 24 going on 25 yrs of age. His focus is on his career. Not that he hasn't thought of or desired family, he's just too busy to turn his mind to the subject. That is, until one day, when the Lord takes his hand and directs Scott's attention in another direction.
  • Lorraine and John Eaton: Parents of Scott Eaton. John is a successful businessman while Lorraine is a stay-at-home mom who has many interests outside of the home, now that her children are growing up. Together they provide the foundation Scott will need when his attentions turn towards the thoughts of marriage and family.
  • Ben and Brad Eaton: Young brothers of Scott Eaton. Their typical teenage fashion tempered with learned respect from their parents add a refreshing element to this story.
  • Samantha and David Dupuis: Older Sister of Scott, and husband of Scott's sister. They have five children, Christy, Mark, Bennie, Tyler, and Sylvie. Their insight on raising a large family add the dynamics of family relations as the book unfolds.
  • Brian McGregor: Antagonist to Lynn.
  • Cheryl Temple: Antagonist to Scott.
  • Martha Green and Mrs. Matthews: Martha is the supervisor of Lynn at work. Mrs. Matthews is Scott's private secretary. Their patience and understanding prove invaluable when things become difficult.
  • Fr. Sean Cunningham: Parish Priest and friend to the Eaton family. His Irish sense of humor and solid advise in the areas of faith and morals adds a good theological background to the sacredness of marriage between one man and one woman.

Themes & Symbolism edit see section history

  • Learning to trust: Throughout the book, Lynn learns how to TRUST those God places in her life as well as how to better TRUST God.It's an issue most don't realize that it is an issue and often effects their relationship with others, be them family, friends, or casual acquaintances. What calls for greater TRUST than when another declares that they love you? You have to be able to TRUST that they are sincere. That they will not turn around and hurt you. That they will guard your heart and help you to become more of the person God intended you to be.And with that, one then begins to TRUST that God does know best, and He will never bring sorrow into our lives, but instead will provide us His LOVE when sorrow comes into our lives. God does not give a snake when we've asked for a rose.

Reading Level: Adults

Though young adults might also appreciate this book, I wrote it primarily for the cognitive level of 20 to 40 year olds. However, it certainly could be read in a group discussion format with teens as there is an adult as the discussion leader. The content is VERY SAFE - no language or gratuitous sexual content - just the level of reading requires an adult to help grasp the more spiritual content and reasoning contained within. The book does contain many "teachable moments".
