Donna Leon has the gift to bringing characters like the Commissario Guido Brunetti to life with all the concomitant crime intrigue and social issues.

Set in breathtaking Venezia city, it tells the hard hitting story of a paediatrician assaulted in his own home by the Carabinieri. Also skulking in the storyline is the break-in of a Chemists'.
The plot is enjoyable and gripping and the character of Brunetti is very likeable and human.

I'm a fan of Donna Leon mysteries but I didn't think this was the strongest entry in the series. There were a lot of different things going on, but it didn't quite come together at the end. Since the book was just over 250 pages there wasn't much time to get anything to come together anyway.
