This is a very well written novel of the WWII battles in the desert. You feel like you are there with Rommel, Montgomery and Eisenhower, and get a very detailed picture of battle strategies in North Africa. That was the problem for me. Too much technical information and not enough personal...

Outstanding! The charector development and the insights were done magnificently

It is hard to tell where the facts end and the fiction begins.

I look forward tor eading more of Shaara's work.
This book is highly reccomend this to any one who is interested in WW2 novels.

Shaara is always fun. His composite characters really create the drama.

A good start with WWII with a lot of action in North Africa.

Too much technical information and not enough personal stories. This is a great choice for the WWII buff.

So far I am having trouble geting through this book. Much more technical than some of his other books. Characters don't seem to grab me like in the other books. But I am only 1/4 of the way through and I will keep going.

I'm not a history buff but I really enjoyed learning more about the North African tour of WWII. I loved getting inside the heads of the generals and lieutenants, rooting even for Rommel at one point even though I knew the Germans would lose.

A good book if you want to read about the war in africa. It doesn't really teach you anything (unlike his other books) but it is an o.k. read. Those who want non-stop action-don't get this book.

Mediocre book. Great historically but missing a real plot. I saw others in the series but don't think I'll be reading them.
