“To quote my friend Tanya, "What books are you guys reading?", because I don't know how so many people gave this book 4 to 5 stars. Now don't get me wrong; good books, like beauty, is always in the eye of the beholder... but I just couldn't get the appeal.
What I liked:
The main characters; Jackson and Emma. At first. I felt that I could relate to her sense of apprehension in living a life that was already mapped out for her by others instead of herself. Her sense of wonder in being in a new place, having the chance to leave and reinvent herself and trying new things. She even had some funny quotes in the begining
The few times I had stepped inside a gym, it was inevitable that everyone inside was already fit. Where did the regular people go, before they were able to wear spandex ensembles with pride? did they keep them in some dark hidden room of the gym until they where presentable enough to be unleased into the main facility?
I rationalized that while I wanted a fling, I didn't want a fling with a man who was flinging every other woman.
But as the story wore on, those little fun insights to her quick wit and humor went away. Which brings us to
What I didn't like:
The insta-love (Major eye rolling going on from this point on as I read the book. It was almost like I was having a seizure) Or more like the insta-lust, in this case. I don't know about you but if Jackson or any man, said to me that he's imagining making love to me the second time I met him and I would find him king of forward. Maybe that's just my thinking
Again, only IMO, but I find that the anticipation to sex can be better than jumping right into it. In real life and in books. I mean, Chapter four? Really?! I don't even know these characters and they sure as heck don't know each other and they're jumping into bed together and proclaiming their undying love? This is supposed to be some great love story? O_o
.
The characters didn't even seem to know each other very well, Emma even said
"He sounded so cold and callous. It reminded me that I didn't really know this man"
How can this be the love of your life but you don't even know him?
In short, I did not like this book at all. The characters were very shallow and all they seemed to care about was having sex. There was no real communication or feeling involved in their interactions. They were also very obsessed with each other which I found kind of disturbing. I trudged through it because after so many high reviews I expected it to get better or at least give me something or someone to cheer for, but it wasn't meant to be.
No offense was meant in the review of this book, if you enjoyed it and thought I was crazy for my opposite opinion you're more than intitled to feel that way. :)”
