I ended up liking the book a lot better because of the great detail that the book had that the movie did not. You are able to connect with the characters more. The girl in this book (Jamie) ends is a outcast that connects...” see full review » see other reviews » |

The authors theme for this book was “The beauty and power and innocence of first true love.” He wrote this book because it is a book about love and those are his favorite books to write. His sister however inspired this book. The main character in the book, Jamie, was like her in many ways. He based Jamie off her and the things that happened to her. He said, “I suppose I wrote this novel not only so that you could get to know my sister, but so that you would know what a wonderful thing it was that her husband once did for her.” Her husband married her even though he knew she would not survive her cancer. Nicholas Sparks was trying to prove that love is about giving, caring, and about being the best person you can be. There is an old saying that Sparks mentions in an interview and it is "Love in your heart wasn't put there to stay; Love isn't love until you give it away."
This book was set in the 1950s in Beaufort, North Carolina. A lot of it takes place at their school, which was Beaufort High School. In addition, there was the Beaufort Playhouse where Landon Carter first fell in love with Jamie Sullivan. There was an orphanage in Morehead City where Jamie and Landon spent Christmas together. Another place was Jamie house where Landon first asked out Jamie.
There are not subtopics in this book. This book taught me that you should love no matter what. You should not let sad or tragic circumstances stop you from loving. True love is the most wonderful feeling in the world according to Nicholas Sparks. Nicholas Sparks believed that true love stands the test of time or tragic circumstances and that it is true love that makes it through the ups and downs of any relationship. One of the taglines of the book is “Love is like the wind. I can’t see it, but I can feel it.”
This book was a good book about love. The book told about a young boy who had already dated two girls and sworn that he had already been in love but then he met Jamie Sullivan, who was the minister’s daughter, and discovered true love. A twist of fate brought them together and Landon’s life would never be the same again. This book is good because it tells about two people who never thought they would fall in love and they did. Even though their love was hard and had tragic circumstances they still got through it. The book is funny and sad. Sparks said that this was the only book that made him cry while writing it. This story was very touching and a great story.
The audience in which this book is directed is teenagers, but it is not strictly marked to teens. Adults can read it too because the book is about first love and everyone has had a first love.”
“this book is awesome a real tear jerker. i love jamie her character is so accepting and pure.”
