Cast of Characters/Important People
- Adrienne Willis: Main Female character. She's divorced and works as a part-time librarian. As a favor she helps to watch her friend's inn in Rodanthe, North Carolina.
- Paul Flanner: Main Male character. He is a divorced plastic surgeon, staying in the inn while he has a personal business to attend to before leaving the States.
- Amanda: Adrienne's daughter. She has two children and just lost her husband.
- Robert Torrelson: He is the husband of Paul's patient, who died while in surgery.
- Mark Flanner: Paul's son, also a doctor. He is working in Ecuador.
- Jean: Adrienne's friend, owner of the Inn in Rodanthe.
First Sentence
Three years earlier, on a warm November morning in 1999, Adrienne Willis had returned to the Inn and at first glance had thought it unchanged, as if the small Inn were impervious to sun and sand and salted mist.
