I haven't read a Shirlee Busbee in a long time and wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with this book. She has moved on from the "bodice ripper" days and her males are less aggressive - still alphas, but with more beta thrown into the mix. (I do confess that some of her...

Shirlee Busbee is new to me, and Scandal Becomes Her, was a rather marvellous induction for me into her world. I liked Ms Busbee’s delivery of romance with a hint of suspense, even though the twist was foreseen, but it made you all the more nervous and anxious for the unsuspecting hero and heroine who walked into the trap.

I haven't read a Shirlee Busbee in a long time and wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with this book. She has moved on from the "bodice ripper" days and her males are less aggressive - still alphas, but with more beta thrown into the mix. (I do confess that some of her old "bodice rippers" are on my keeper shelf!)

Unfortunately I read Seduction Becomes Her before reading this book and so the mystery and suspense aspect of this story had been spoiled for me. So, word of advice, "Read Scandal... first." That said, the mystery was pretty well-written and kept my interest, even though I already who who the killer was. The slight paranormal aspect of the book was handled in a straightforward way which made it plausible.

I liked Julian and Nell very much and felt that I got to know them fairly well through the course of the story. I cared about them and wanted a HEA for them. There was a bit of a "Big Misunderstanding" in the relationship between Julian and Nell that went on a bit too long for my tastes. I could understand how it happened, but more trust and more honest communication would have moved the relationship along more quickly.

The secondary characters were also interesting and added a lot to the story. I loved getting to know cousins Marcus and Charles and I am assuming they will have their own stories. Charles' story is told in Seduction Becomes Her. I enjoy seeing male characters have strong friendships and this was a satisfying part of the story.

    All-in-all a very solid read.
