Quick & Dirty: This was a snarky hilarious read filled with very realistic characters, and a very sweet steamy romance!
Opening Sentence: God, I love the beach.
Camie Ramsey is 15 years old and starting public school for the first time. She has been home schooled her whole life with her younger sister Jillian and has loved every minute of it. But a few months ago Camie’s mother got diagnosed with breast cancer and her family decided it would be best to move back to San Diego where they will be closer to family. Soon after they move her mother realizes that she doesn’t have the strength to home school them anymore so Camie gets to go to high school for the first time. Of course she happens to be going to a school known as “Soshmont” or in other terms pretty much everyone that goes there is extremely rich and stuck up. Camie is worried she won’t fit in, but she really doesn’t have a choice.
On her first day of school she meets the most gorgeous guy she has ever laid eyes on. His name is Tristan Daniels and he is Junior. He is the brooding mysterious type, but Camie feels the electricity between them. On her first day she also meets some new friends. One of them is Kate and they really hit it off right away. Kate happens to have been best friends with Tristan pretty much her whole life and she decided that she wants Camie and Tristan to get together. So they form a plan to snare the most unattainable boy in the school, but will Camie find love or heartache in the end?
Camie is totally a very realistic 15 year old girl. She hasn’t really had any experience when it comes to boys. She also really has no social experience since she was home schooled and pretty much stuck with her little group of friends. She has always been told she was beautiful and she doesn’t lack confidence, but she is still unsure of herself in a lot of areas. She has her faults but she owns up to them and knows that she not perfect, which I loved about her. She has a funny attitude, and what you see is what you get. She doesn’t put on an act for anyone. She also has quite a temper and she can be pretty hotheaded at times. She is a sweet girl with a lot of inexperience, but she tries to follow her heart. I absolutely adored Camie. She was so easy to connect with and I can’t wait to read more about her the next book.
Tristan Daniels is pretty much the epitome of what a swoon worthy boy should be! He has blonde wavy hair, a rocking body, and an unreadable mysterious persona. Pretty much every girl wants to date him and every boy wants to be him, but that doesn’t stop Tristan from being lonely. He has never met a girl that was worth committing to so he has just done the whole hook-up thing with no strings attached. When he meets Camie his walls start to crumble and it scares the crap out of him. He is a really good guy underneath the facade he puts on, but he has a temper and jealous streak. He has amazing chemistry with Camie, but they are both really stubborn. Tristan starts to wonder if all the crap that comes with love is really worth it. I loved Tristan even though he has some major faults he is an amazing guy and I couldn’t help falling for him right along with Camie.
I really loved this book. I actually heard about it because of the YA Crush Tourney that is put on by the YA Sisterhood blog, Tristan was killing it in the nominations so I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. This book was so funny and I found myself not wanting to put it down. I read it in a day because it was really that good. I loved the characters, they felt so realistic and they were so easy to fall in love with. The only problem I had with this book was some of the writing. There were a few areas that dragged a little and there were times when I had no idea who was saying what. I think that it just needed a little bit of editing and then this book would totally be a five star read. The plot is filled with heartache, steamy romance, and a great coming of age story. Fair warning, this does have some pretty vulgar language and some pretty steamy scenes so I would recommend it to a more mature crowd. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next one. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes YA/NA contemporary romances.
I was trying to screw up my courage to holler some suitable profanity mixed with a nice string of one hundred dollar words from my extensive vocabulary at the offending crowd, but I should’ve heeded their warning instead. As we shuffled ahead, I hooked the toe of one of my sandals on a crack in the pavement and pitched forward. I would’ve for sure done a very graceful faceplant but a hand firmly grabbed my arm to keep me from flying to the ground. I was so grateful to him that I was about to throw my arms around Paul’s neck and hug him in front of God and everyone— including the disdainful gaggle of teens that would condemn me to the bottom of the social barrel for sure if I did. I turned to face him and realized with a sizzling jolt of over-active and under-used hormones, it wasn’t Paul who was deserving of my intended, full-body expression of thanks.
WHOA. Insert choice expletive here_____, because I got nothin’. In fact, I consciously told myself to close my mouth and then I surreptitiously checked my chin for slobber.
“Hey Paul, you forgot this back there,” the most gorgeous real-life guy I’ve ever seen in all my fifteen years and nine months of life said, brushing against me and causing my skin to tingle as he handed a beat up Isaac Asimov paperback to Paul. Honestly, I imagine that’s what a lightning rod might feel like when it’s struck.
I’m gonna take a minute here because you seriously need to understand how magnificent this guy is. He’s tall— like probably at least 6’2”— super tan, and he has sort of long, sun-streaked, light brown hair that’s kind of a layered mess, so I’m thinking surfer right about now. This makes sense because he’s got a ridiculously powerful physique, but not bulky like a football player’s. His chest is really wide and he has well defined arm muscles. And just so you know, I can totally see the outline of his pecs and six-pack abs through his supremely well fitted H2O Polo team t-shirt. To top it off, he’s got these amazing, sparkling, cerulean blue eyes that are fringed with thick lashes. Truthfully, I’ve never seen blue eyes like his. I mean he’s YU-UM-MY!
