“Compared to the Lovely Bones, this a gritty, real life memoir about Sebold's rape. I didn't enjoy the Lovely Bones and I bought this for 50p and to be truthful; I thought it was fantastic and devoured it all in one night. Some parts were uncomfortable to read but it's bravely written and compared her major novel, this outshines it. Watch out for a re-release when The Lovely Bones film is out in the cinemas at Christmas. ”

Yes | No“In a memoir hailed for its searing candor and wit, Alice Sebold reveals how her life was utterly transformed when, as an eighteen-year-old college freshman, she was brutally raped ad beaten in a park near campus. What propels this chronicle of her recovery is Sebold's indomitable spirit - as she struggles for understanding ("After telling the hard facts to anyone, from lover to friend, I have changed in their eyes"); as her dazed family and friends sometimes bungle their efforts to provide comfort and support; and as, ultimately, she triumphs, managing through grit and coincidence to help secure her attacker's arrest and conviction. In a narrative by turns disturbing, thrilling, and inspiring, Alice Sebold illuminates the experience of trauma victims even as she imparts wisdom profoundly hard-won: "You save yourself or you remain unsaved."

“I read Sebold's book The Lovely Bones, and I loved it!!! I wanted to read more by this author, and I found Lucky. Lucky is the autobiographical account of the author's violent experience with sexual assault as a freshman in college. I am just beginning the book, but so far it is a page-turner!”

The start of the book was very real and horrifying, the descriptions were incredibly detailed and made me imagine it as if it was happening to me. However, I thought the book dragged on a little and mentioned experiences that I didn't feel were relevant to the main experience, but that's my own thought. Overall it was a very insightful book.”

It's Alice's account of how she was raped at college - not a pleasant subject I know, but she tackles it with such honesty and wit, I was completely blown away. Read this book, women!”

The author really made me understand what a rape victim goes through...even long after it happens. Its a really depressing book but a true story.”
