God Bless You Dr. Kevorkian Kurt Vonnegut

    4 stars

Kurt Vonnegut takes near death experiences administered by Dr. Kevorkian, to interview people inside the pearly gates. It's a very short book, and a bit interesting in that Vonnegut says there's no hell, and he interviews Hitler and the man who shot Martin Luther King. Definatley more on the humorous then serious side.

This book is a really quick read. One trip to the park and you're done. The idea of interviewing the dead is really interesting but I guess I shouldn't really be surprised since it's Vonnegut. Expect the usual dose of wit and creativity.

God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian is a compilation of short passages originally presented on NPR. The narrator, with the help of the title character, has repeated near-death experiences in order to interview famous (and not so famous) people in the afterlife.

This book is clever, short, and fun. What would Hitler say if we could speak to him in the afterlife? What about Shakespeare? The book made me smile.

The trouble is, however, that it was utterly forgettable (at least to me). I remember the premise, but many of the shorts were not memorable in themselves to really stay with me.
