“Great book on tape!”

Like a criminal mystery show, I found myself continually trying to solve the mysteries, adjusting my hypotheses as each new clue was revealed. ”

It kept my interest although it did seem to be a bit slow here and there and a little repetitive but it all made since once the ending came but what an ending!! And just for GP the author in his conclusion message stated that he would never write another book like it. It was more then he could handle.”

Step has a new job at a computer company writing manuals, though he really is better at programming. Their oldest son, Stevie, is having trouble fitting in at school. DeAnne is able to fit in and feel comfortable in their Mormon Church community. Through most of the book, they appear to be a normal family, dealing with the move and stresses of it and Step’s job as best as they can. But weird things are happening.
It was good. It was written in 1982, so the computer references were kind of fun! (Atari, Commodore 64…) There was a lot of religious/Mormon stuff, but I didn’t think it was at all preachy, it was just part (a big part, yes) of their lives. I thought the end fit.

The main character, a game programmer down on his luck, trying to hold his family together despite more misfortunes than Job, just failed to win my sympathy. The book was not written altogether well, and I discerned the main character a bit of a smartass, in spite of his hardships. This book rolled along slowly and was about 100 pages too long. I will look forward to eventually reading Ender's Game (OSC's supposed tour de force.) I'm assuming it will be much more captivating than this, an apparent sophomoric effort. ”
