This was a strange book. I don't really like graphic novels, so that skewed my opinion. The story was odd, and weird jokes were made without. By the end, all the stories merged into one, which was kind of interesting, but otherwise it was a confusing book.

A very quick read about accepting yourself and your heritage. This graphic novel follows two story lines, which eventually merge. The first story is about a monkey god, who is not allowed to go to the gods' dinner party, because he does not wear shows. Embarrassed by this, he becomes determined to be an equal of the highest powers, not just a monkey. Meanwhile, Jin Wang, a young boy of Chinese heritage, tries to escape from his asian-ness. He hates being made fun of and wants so badly to be 'normal.' Ultimately though, he learns that being himself is more important, and that he cannot escape his cultural heritage.

I love this book because it is a simple comic book. This book is a about a kid who is Chinese and went to America. Inside the book it has 3 differnt stories.

This graphic novel intertwines three tales. The visual and written aspects of this book are phenomenal! It becomes a "Where's Waldo?" as the reader searches for hidden jokes or humor within the pictures and text. I would highly recommend it- even for struggling or resistant readers.
