“I read this book based on a friend's recommendation. He said it was the best book he had ever read. He was so moved by it that he wrote a letter to Ken Follett. Maybe my expectations were too high for the book. It is a good book, but not a great book. I don't have a problem with long books but 1000+ page book was just too lengthy. The architecture was described in too much detail. I couldn't visualize what the author was describing and landed up skipping over these areas of the book. The battle scenes became monotonous - how many times did William need to attack people before we understood that he was an evil person? The last 100 pages I skimmed so that I could finish the book.

The book is full of a grand cast of characters that are well developed and masterfully interwoven with one each other. But the same story could have been told in a more condensed version what I would have found more enjoyable.”

“This book is difficult to review. It is extremely well written, but much of the subject matter is quite descriptive and difficult. I would definitely not recommend to young readers as it has some very descriptive violent and sexual scenes. However, if you aren't fazed by those types of things in books, then it was an extremely interesting read.”
