Though the characters are well developed and, in the beginning, the story line is quite interesting, I found it it terribly predictable and seemingly never ending. I was also bored throughout the book with it's pages of endless description of how to build a cathedral. |

“A spellbinding novel. I didn't think I could finish such a heavy novel, but it was so interesting that I had to keep going until the end. I skipped some long passages on the cathedral architecture, though, since I don't have enough knowledge to enjoy what he was describing.”

“It took me nearly 200 pages to invest in the story, but with over 900 pages the investment was well worth it. This text has it all, but I want to know if it is historically accurate. Pillars of the Earth is very adult; I would not recommend to teens. Follett weaves a great tale with engaging details.”

Prachtige historische roman over de bouw van een kathedraal in Kingsbridge in het Engeland van de 14de eeuw. Een verhaal over bekwame bouwmeesters, een ambitieuze prior, een arrogante bisschop met een eigen agenda en de machtsstrijd over de troonopvolging van de koning. De miniserie op de tv vond ik al erg mooi, het boek doet daar niet voor onder. Heerlijk dik boek. Ik heb het zowel in papier als op de e-reader.”
