The beginning was a little hard to get into but I stuck with it and was rewarded with a great book. Her writing is very "fancy"--large, descriptive words (it seemed as if she had a thesaurus handy and used it for every adjective she came across). No one really talks that way, so it seemed a little ridiculous at times, but other than that, it was a great, but depressing book. The review on the back of the book didn't even give a hint as to how sad this book was going to be. And if the south really is as crummy as Anne describes it as, I'm thankful I don't live there.

I can actually quote pages from this novel. At times I pretend to re-write it because I want a happy ending soooo badly.

And much of the Atlanta in this book is a lot like Lexington. (Just like GoneWithTheWind.)

The best book I have ever read! Wonderful history of Atlanta and area, two amazing characters whose lives intertwine. I couldn't stop thinking about this book for months!

Not my favorite of the Siddons books -- everyone in the book is absolutely ruled by a woman who was insane from the time she was a child. The best part of the book was the last few pages, when she dies. Much more about severe mental illness than I ever wanted to read. And it was LONG. 566 pages. Still -- I finished it.

The first time I picked up this book, I put it down after about 20 pages because I just couldn't get into it. Some months later, I picked it up again, started reading it and was so sucked into the story that I was sad to see the book end. I absolutely loved this book.

Anyone who grew up Southern, especially in the Atlanta area, will identify with the characters, places, and events in this book. As a native Atlantan, I feel as if Siddons spied on my teen and young adult years to write this only-somewhat- fictionalized account.

Being an Atlanta native....Anne Rivers Siddons is a favorite..... love her style and they are definately 'beach books' for me. Peachtree Road is a meandering tale of Atlanta Families..... we one of a kind.....
