This is a wonderful book! It's an unexpected surprise to find a "personal development" book that's backed by solid science instead of feel-good platitudes.

Haidt examines a number of factors affecting happiness, and presents interesting - and sometimes confronting - ideas. For instance,...

I enjoyed this book and felt I agreed with its thesis from the beginning. That "wisdom is so cheap and abundant that it floods over us from calendar pages, tea bags, bottle caps, and mass e-mail messages forwarded by well-meaning friends," and if we could just savor those pieces of wisdom a little and incorporate them into our own lives, we might 'find' happiness somewhere in between. His use of metaphor to help push along the argument is great such as the rider and the elephant to describe our brains, and the comparison of humans to plants rather than machines to help explain the conditions for happiness.

Lot's of interesting science experiments and funny and fascinating commentaries make this a book that is definitely worth reading.

I nearly put this book back on the shelf until I noticed the wealth of references on the back pages. A fantastic book that got me thinking about happiness from different perspectives.
