Very interesting book and well written book, but it was a slow read.

Good build-up but very abrupt and confusing end.

Really enjoyed this novel. Well researched historical fiction with authentic, engaging characters. Would love to see a sequel.

A traveloguie with vampires. Very interesting, with colorful characters and descriptions of Eastern European countries and cities. I liked it but the ending was too easily wrapped up.

A long read, but well worth every word. The journey that Kostova takes the reader on is like an adventure into the nooks and cranies of an ancient archive full of wonderful manuscripts as well as traveling the crooked roadways of geographic and historical antiquity, not to mention the allure of a great mystery around every corner.

My step-son, Matt, says this is one of his very favorite books.
He keeps making me promise that I will read it soon, so we
    can talk about it.
    Thanksgiving Break?

The style of writing is nicely suited for book or history lovers. The characters were nice, if a little one-sided sometimes, but the best thing of it is probably the description of the places and times traveled therein. Unfortunately, I don't think the plot kept up with it. A very good build up that ended up going nowhere new or interesting and a villain that wasn't too villainous made this story far less than it could've been.
