suetha, it is worth it. I definitely think you should try to stick through it. I thought the same thing when I first started it, but I got through it, and now it's one of my favorite books.

The beginning is a bit too slow in pace.... I am still struggling with it.

I thought it was great. The story was intriguing, detailed and well told. After reading it I felt really excited to learn more about Eastern European history.

Badly written, corny and full of cliche. The only thing that kept me going was that I read it while travelling to Romania (yes I went to Transilvania) and wanted to get into the mood. Don't waste your time with this.

alt agreed thought the pacing was fine, i think people who came to this book who are regular bestseller readers, came from dan brown, and this book borders on being literary, i mean it isnt literary, but it is written very nearly as one. i dont read best sellers anymore because i cant take their light level, except for regular crime writers like elmore leonard, robert parker and such, so i think that is the difference.

Disliked the slow pace but a good read especially if you like or have knowledge in European history.

OK book but it gets so bogged down in details that I ended up skimming most of it just to get through it. It's way too long and I ended up skipping the last 200 or pages just to read the ending.

Although I found the ending just a bit on the weak side - the book kept me fastinated throughout. I'm looking for more from Kostova. Anyone familiar with any of her other work?
