“This book discusses famous women from the Jazz Age and Harlem Renaissance: Mina Loy, Margaret Anderson, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Mabel Dodge, A'Lelia Walker, Bessie Smith, & Ethel Waters. Barnet connects these women through their vast network of friends and lovers to show how they flouted gender expectations of their era. The book is interesting and written in a lively style. If you want a quick overview of these women's lives then I would recommend it; however, Barnet doesn't go into enough detail for me--I would prefer a more in-depth look at their lives.”
