Hughes' poetry is accessible, interesting and engaging. While I find most poetry alternately too ethereal and fluffy or too ostentatious and melodramatic, Hughes touches on a range of topics from the racial to the amorous with a sincere clarity that pleasantly surpised me.

I gave this book a rating of 5 because I love poetry and book about love. And this poem book has poems that is about love and has 2-3 poems about ghost and stuff. I enjoyed all of the poems. There were no poems i didn't like. They were all about the poet's life and stuff. What he felt, thought, and what he saw in his life. If you like poems then you should read this book.

A frequent and favorite read, even though I'm not the most partial to poetry. The poems are funny and easy to understand while still being deep. A nice change from some of the earlier prim and proper poets.
