• Dr. Winifred Haymes, usually known as Fred, has been newly promoted to the position of Field Researcher for the Library Institute and is about to head off to her first assignment cataloging the finds at an archaeological dig in Arizona. It isn't long before she finds that her erstwhile friend, Dr. Stephen Greene, is also in the neighborhood, even though he should be teaching at Heidelberg University. Instead of the peace and boredom Fred is expecting, she finds that something underhanded is going on, and she has become involved whether she likes it or not.
