Characters/People edit see section history

  • James Butler: A hack author who invents a time machine. Doubtful, his friends go along anyway. They discover he is absolutely correct and embark on a journey to free the South (slaves as well as whites) from a future of economic slavery from an oppressive, overbearing north that cares only for compliance with federal mandate.
  • George B. McClellan: Union general, George has dreams of bringing all United States citizens into compliance with the federal government's desires and laws. Charged with building an army to invade the south, he contemplates freeing the slaves in order to fight the rebels in two ways: economically as well as militarily.
  • Magali Pagonis: A reporter - and a rarity, a female - from New Orleans, Magali is personally opposed to slavery, but tries to help her homeland as best she can. Continually rebuffed on the question of letting blacks go free, she wonders why she supports such a backwards regime.
