A wonderful ripping yarn: Patrick O'Brian with dragons. Loved it. Excellent entertainment, not too silly, went down very well. Am going to order the next one in the series as soon as possible.

One of the best dragon books since Pern. Almost as good a story too.

This is Jane Eyre with intelligent Dragons and no other fantasy elements (including book length- it's around 350 pages, which is nice, a lot of fantasy books are fluffed up to around 900). There isn't a-lot of action in the first part but the character and world development kept me hooked. When the book finally gets around to some action it doesn't disappoint. Just a heads up though it's a fun book, not a very deep one.

fun book-I have not seen a story about dragons during the Napoleonic wars, which made it a little more interesting. I'll maybe try the next one in the series later on-but perhaps I will try to finish my other series first (such as "Scarlet" and "Dawn of empire")

Wow. I hate reading about the Napoleonic era, and this series made me forget that. What are you still reading this for, go out and read the series already!

The thought of Dragons living with humans really captures my attention, the fact this book was in the 1800's is also very cool. There are a few twists in the book, not many characters. However alot of development too the characters

I went into this book with no expectations, just a love for stories with dragons. And I loved this book! The main dragon, Temeraire, won my heart from the start with his quick intelligence coupled with a child's honesty. It was interesting to see the way the story worked into the history of the Napoleonic era - the class clashes and the warfare strategy added a realistic counterpart to the fantasy/alternate history aspect of the story.

All in all a really good book and I'm definitely going to read the next in the series.

Another Dragon book . . . but I enjoyed it. It is a short book. The first three books might equal a normal single book that I read. But I am looking forward to continuing the series.

I really liked this novel because it was interesting how the author recreated the world of Napolean Bonaparte’s war, but added dragons. Naomi Novik stated through this novel how friendship is the greatest virtue of them all. Laurence and Temeraire share a bond that is unbreakable, even when the British corporals try to remove Temeraire from Laurence’s handling. I highly recommend this book for six graders through adults.
