An Object At Rest

By the age of 21, down-to-earth Detroit handyman Derrick Chance had lost everyone he'd ever loved. Too worn-out and wounded to play the dating game, he wrote off the possibility of relationships, or even just sex. Living alone in the old house his grandparents had... read more

Characters edit see section history

  • Derrick Chance: Derrick is tall and lean, though well-muscled thanks to his job. He tans easily and maintains a tan long into the winter. His eyes are dark gray-green and his hair shoulder-length chestnut brown and wavy. It has a tendency to fall into his eyes and so he often tucks it back behind his ear. His usual manner of dress is casual; most frequently a t-shirt and jeans. His most notable features are his eyelashes, lips, and backside. He is shy and unused to being noticed, and a deeply private person who gets defensive when he feels someone is meddling or prying into his life. Very little upsets him quicker than to see someone being bullied or pushed into something. Though he has an open good nature, he's deeply protective of his heart and it can be hard to get close to him because of his barriers.
  • Gavin Hayes: Gavin Hayes is tall and skinny. He dances and jogs, so most of his musculature is built up in his lower body rather than his upper body. His hair is short and blond. On the weekdays he wears it slicked back and parted, and on the weekends he wears it loose and barely combed. His eyes are a lighter shade of brown, "honey" or "whiskey" brown. He is pale-skinned, sunburns easily, and has a smattering of freckles across his face and a larger spread of freckles across his shoulders. He has a tattoo of two swallows on his ribcage on the left side, in honor of his late brother and father.Gavin is cocky, flirty, sassy, impatient and quick-tempered. He likes dressing to attract attention. While he's not overtly effeminate, he has a slight tendency toward flamboyance that will ping just about any gaydar, especially when he's not dressed professionally. His work uniform is custom-tailored designer suits. On the weekend, he prefers more casual clothing intended to display him to his fullest advantage.
  • LeeAnne: Derrick's girlfriend from when he was 14-years old until he was about 21. She's now married, pregnant and living in San Francisco.
  • Devon: Derrick's best friend since high school, married to Hannah
  • Hannah: Devon's wife
  • Chelsea: Derrick's dog, a Shar Pei.
  • Andrea: Gavin's good friend Andi, his college roommate.
  • Meira: Gavin's younger sister
  • Miss Ingrid: Derrick's neighbor
  • Lukas: Gavin's ex-lover
