- Lucian val Drasmyr: A 1000 year old vampire that likes to feed on wizards, warriors, and pretty much everyone else.
- Coragan of Esperia: A bounty hunter hired to investigate a fire and find the missing guild master.
- Galladrin: An amiable rogue who assists Coragan in his endeavor.
- Borak: A hulking warrior who is also companion to Coragan, but who rarely talks, except when needed.
- Arcalian: The initial guild master of the wizards guild. He disappears after a fire, and sets off the manhunt that ultimately leads the guild into conflict with Lucian val Drasmyr.
- Regecon: The guild master of the wizaerds guild in Arcalian's absence. He hires Coragan and his companions.
- Ambrisia: Mistress of the Earth; a capable sorceress serving on the Council of High Mages.
- Jacindra: Mistress of the Air; a capable sorceress serving on the Council of High Mages.
- Toreg: A water mage. He is an acting-member of the Council of High Mages.
- Morcallenon: The guild's head diviner, and a member of the Council of High Mages.
- Clarissa: A skilled warrior woman who is transformed into a vampire by Lucian.
- Korina: A wizard student who secretly studies dark magic and worships demons.
- Morgulan: A name from legend. A mad warrior emperor who conquered much of the world in his day before being overthrown. Lucian val Drasmyr was one of his highest generals when he walked the world as a man.
- Zarina the Black: Another name from legend. She was an evil sorceress who served the demonic forces of Hell in the time of Morgulan. She was Morgulan's lover and helped him in his dark quest.
