This book is about "Breanna's" true life experiences during the first two years after being released from prison - back into a destructive relationship with a narcissistic man.

"Bad things happen to good people, even to good people with the best of intentions - me for instance." Breanna's life was destroyed twice by a destructive relationship with a narcissistic man on drugs. She was not about to let it happen a third time!

"If you find out that you can't change something, don't try; go around it instead. Do something different! But, don't give up; don't give in - even when you don't have any energy or resources left. Be damned stubborn and determined, or you will be vulnerable!" Breanna's caring nature led her to believe that she had to help others solve their problems. She became a codependent in a destructive narcissistic relationship. Her self-respect and self-confidence eroded to the point that it was non-existent. She survives and gets her self-respect back! She ends a destructive relationship that had destroyed her!

Breanna learns to constantly keep her guard up and challenge everyone's motive. "Evil often wins!" But it didn't win this time!

Breanna and Heath's long-distance prison romance grows into a beautiful, mutually-supportive relationship; and Breanna gets her lilfe back.

This book tells the story of a woman trapped in a destructive narcissistic-codependent relationship and how she is eventually able to "get out" of that relationship.

Characters/People edit see section history

  • Breanna: Breanna is the main character in the story. Breanna is returning home from a two-year prison term (e.g., re-entry into her society). Breanna is "stuck" with the real, unavoidable circumstances of re-entry; and she deals with them as best she can.
  • Breanns's Mother: Breanna's mother welcomes Breanna back into her home and all that comes with the territory. Breanna's mother is addicted to pain pills; and, as such, maintains relationships that do not offer a good environment for Breanna to "get her life back".
  • Kevin: Kevin is Breanna's old friend and "drug budy". Kevin assumes that Breanna is coming back home to him. Kevin's narcissistic personality poses some particularly negative problems for Breanna.
  • Heath: Heath is Breanna's friend from "before prison" who stuck by Breanna while she was in prison. Heath and Breanna had a prison-romance which blossoms after Breanna returns home from prison.
  • Brad: Brad is Breanna's "little" brother who is always getting into trouble. Breanna is always getting Brad out of trouble - until things get out-of-control.
  • Betsy: Betsy is Breanna's blue-nose pit bull dog. Betsy is like a child to Breanna. Betsy is Breanna's protector. Betsy adds humor and vitality to Breanna's life - especially when it comes to Breanna-and-Heath's growing relationship.
