I have loved reality TV since Real World. I know ... A lot of people don't understand it. This book helped me to understand why I love it. It's the people. The characters that we come to know over the course of their shows.

Granted, this book has far more interesting and likeable...

It is an ok book for me. Not too big than I expected. It's cool though that it has a reality-television element to it that really love.

Reads like a TV reality show... funny in parts and moving (the mother/daughter team, the mother hopes to rebuild her relationship with her daughter)

Sitting down on my couch, flipping through channels when I come across The Amazing Race. I watch with great interest as the contestants are roaming all parts of the world to try to win a huge cash prize. It seems so glamorous, getting to visit all of these exotic local with never a dull moment in between, yet, is it really? The book I read, Lost and Found, by Carolyn Parkhurst, follows a fictional mother and daughter throughout their journey on a reality show modeled after The Amazing Race. Lost and Found was a decent book that is ideal for some light, easy reading.
Lost and Found follows around a mother, Laura, and her teenage daughter, Cassie, as they compete on the game show, Lost and Found, and try to salvage their relationship. Cassie was pregnant and delivered her own child and her mother never even noticed she was carrying a child. Because of this, their bond is practically nonexistent and Laura decides the best way to fix that is to go onto the show. As they travel the world, both Laura and Cassie and finding out who they truly are and how they want to start living their life once home. The book also chronicles the stories of the other contestants and how they realize who their true selves and what they want out of life. Many stories end up intertwining and contestants help their fellow contestants in figuring out their identity.
This book was somewhat weird for me and I rarely have this experience when I read; as I was reading, the book was extremely interesting and a page turner, yet when I finished reading and looked at the book as a whole, I was disappointed and thought it was just okay. The author uses first person point of view throughout the book, but every chapter has a new narrator. It mainly is from Cassie or Laura’s point of view, but every contestant on the show has at least one chapter you get in their mind for. Because of that, it kept me interested and at some points in reading, I had to keep going to get back to that character’s mind to see how they solved their problem or see their reactions to certain situations. I finished the book and I sat back and thought about it and I realized, despite the intriguing way it played with point of view, it just really wasn’t all too spectacular. It was easy to comprehend and get through, but it was not memorable. In the end, all of the characters realized they were not living how they wanted to be and then changed so they were finally happy. It was extremely typical and not original at all. Because it was interesting while reading though, I would give this book three out of five stars.
Lost and Found did have an interesting concept, following contestants traveling the world on a reality show, but the book could have done a bit better for how creative that plotline is. I would still recommend it if someone is looking for a light, easy read that they could get through in about two or three days. This book gives about five examples of people finding out who they are, what they believe in, and how they go about standing up for what they want, which is always a good lesson to learn. Lost and Found was different in a good way, but could have been so much better.

This book follows the lives of contestants on an Amazing Race-type reality show. Though it's a bit cheesy and gimmicky at times, it was ok... not great, but not horrible either, and was a quick read.

Listened to this on audio from my library. Each chapter was a different character written in first person. After you meet them all, it continues to rotate among the characters. A group of people are competing in a reality TV show, traveling around the world. Their experiences change their lives and relationships.

Fun but also sometimes tragically realistic novel about the filming of a reality TV show and the personal stories of the contestants. If you hate so-called 'reality' TV as much as I do, it only adds to the enjoyment.

I read the book from beginning to end because my mom and I have always wanted to participate in a reality show, but the plot was not satisfying; the characters were shallow; and their conflicts seemed to be sensationalized. I'm sure there's something better out there to read. I guess this might make a good beach read.
