Chattering brain bothering you? Read this! The last quarter of the book gets a bit weird but the first three quarters are excellent.

I had mixed feelings after reading this book, but they took a real downturn when I saw a photo of Paris Hilton holding "The Power of Now" when she left jail recently..

    • She can read? I doubt it. It was probably one of those things to make it look like she's being spiritual and actually cares about something other than herself. Good decoy!

How come your feelings about the book are influenced by who is reading it or holding it?

to be completely honest i have not finished reading this book. but this is one of a kind. what makes it special is the fact that the author is not a charlatan.
He is a living embodiment of the principles he speaks about.

I used to love the geisha because of their elegance and good looking, but I didn't know what the Geisha is. until I watched the movie and read the book, I found out that no matter what they do, they are simply artists.

Whilst I recognize the powerful messages in this book, I find his explanations to be quite convoluted. For a man teaching people to switch off the mind, he sure puts things in a way that require much thinking to understand him! I'm only halfway through and already know that I will have to read it again and maybe even a third time to really grasp all the facets of what he's saying. Yet despite this, the concepts have already started to shift my life in a positive way. A must read for all, especially with a discussion group!

  • My uncle just came into the bookstore that I work at and told me how this book has just completely changed his life. I mean, we had significant squabble over something petty and it urged him to come in and bury the hatchet. It must be a good book. I look forward to reading it!

Well written book although sometimes a little too cerebral (of course that's the purpose of the book) for my tastes. Good points to keep in mind.

There is very little in this book that isn't derived from the teachings of the Buddha. That's ok, but I think the Buddha put it slightly better.

Totally disagree. You seem to suggest that Tolle somehow stole something from the Buddha, but I see no evidence of that at all. It is true that what he teaches is ultimately the same as what Buddha teaches, but neither one invented the enlightened state, and neither one owns it. In my view, Tolles version is much more effective in today's world.
