  • Janey Rogan: Exremely intelligent college student who does her lessons in her head and is on a scholarship. She's also very poor, but she can still afford her hobby of watching and studying silent films. It keeps her from thinking too hard about her father who wants her to put her scholarship to good use and find a rich husband. Mr. Leiber is a brilliant film preservationist and Janey has a secret crush on him. Her nights with the silents are often interrupted by a gang of students that think throwing half empty soda containers at her after their make-out sessions a hoot. Janey's got a mouth on her and her stinging comebacks keep them angry at her. She begins to doubt her sanity when the stars from the screen start walking around the college campus.
